Sleeping Bear Dunes & Mackinac Island

The Sleeping Bear Dunes

On sunday we decided to go to the Sleeping Bear Dunes.

These dunes are located at Lake Michigan and it provides a nice view. Energy-loaded kids, people, dogs may climb down the dunes and up again, however most of them underestimate the effort to climb the dunes again.

A dog for example was quite eager to get down the dune to the lake. Shortly after the dog and it’s owner arrived at the lake and started to climb up again the dog got quickly exhausted and needed to rest (after 25% climbed).

Mackinac Island

At first thought the ride to the Sleeping Bear Dunes already seemed long, however it took us until afternoon until we arrived at Mackinac Island. To get to the island during summer there is no other alternative than using the ferry (unless you have your own plane, which could use the airport on the island). During the winter, when the ferry do not operate the island may be accessed using snow-bikes.

Traveling on the island itself is also special since there are no cars. There are only horses or bicycles available for ‘public’ transport.

Approximate Route

Each way took us about 6 hours drive. So we started at 8:00 AM and got back like 1:30 AM (*Monday 22nd)
