Washington, Electricity Generation

Washington state has a pretty important and big history in the area of electrical power generation. During World War II it had a great impact. Not only did the Grand Coulee Dam deliver energy for the citizens of Washington. It delivered energy for building Boing aircrafts, nuclear research and not to underestimate the Columbia Basin [Irrigation] Project.

If we look at a pie chart comparing Switzerland and Washington State (Factor 4.5 in size), we see that both countries heavily rely on hydroelectric power plants

If Hydroelectric and other renewables were counted together, Washington state would have 95 % renewable energy. This is quite an impressive percentage. Maybe one day Switzerland will achieve it as well :-)
